saved by the frumpy fashionista…

For those of you who follow my daily mumblings … I have an update on last weeks formal dress shopping fiasco…  Hey Sister Where is the love ?

Having ditched the idea of ever gracing that store again with my wallet, I stumbled across a strange little unassuming shop in my speedy lunch-break today, and I was pleasantly surprised to see a number of gorgeous garments on sale.

I was even more amazed to discover that I loved four of them and after a Superman style change-room effort, I could have purchased any one of three. With the help and attention of the gorgeous young store assistant (as opposed to the frumpy, middle aged cow last week), and two other customers who couldn’t help but get involved in all the fun of formal fashion fitting…. I finally settled on one dress … 20minutes total!

Having found a perfect frock, and feeling like I had already ‘won’ … I was blown away to discover that it was on a ‘super discount’ list….leaving my plenty of room to accessorise, accessorise, accessorise !!

So… to last week’s “50something frumpy, wanna-be-fashionista” I say thank you … I won !!

summing things up…

Picture this… I am in a store waiting to purchase 2 new autumn tops  (that’s not important ~ just wanted to share my bargain), all around the store are signs saying 40% off EVERYTHING, but also on the counter is a small display offering 10% discount to students.

student discountA young man approaches the counter ahead of me and asks the shop assistant how he goes about getting the student discount.

She smiles and replies that there is 40% off EVERYTHING and therefore the student discount does not apply.

Puzzled he asks again … ‘but what do I need to do to  get the 10%?’40 percent

Again she responds calmly and says that all he needs to do is show his student card, HOWEVER today it does not apply because there is 40% of EVERYTHING.

He insisted that he would like to have the student discount because he is a Uni student …and she said … ‘OK that’s fine, just double checking that you would rather have the 10% discount than the 40% storewide discount’?

He stood there, mouth wide and thinking, then after some time replied …’well maybe the 40% would be a better deal… eh’?

Let’s just hope he is not studying mathematics.

what ARE we thinking ???

Whoever said that Uni is a good idea for a “50something” ??? I mean really, who am I kidding ??

I love the idea of learning, and I love the idea of being a student…. sitting here in a hotel room with a glass of wine, cold chicken and textbooks …. but even more than that I love the idea of writing (and if that means essays …. then so be it) … BUT why go to these lengths I ask myself, as I balance 3 blogs and 3 FB pages ….isn’t that enough ‘writing’ for one person ?

At the end of the journey (IF I work in the field)  I will command approximately half of what I get paid now …so there is no economic sense whatsoever….BUT the satisfaction of finishing it can’t be measured in dollars (I keep telling  myself).

Onward and upward the end is (almost) in sight.end in sight

Meanwhile let me share a little trivia that caught my eye today ….

No doubt,many of you subscribe (or have been subscribed to)  numerous online shopping list serves, you know the ones … cudo, living social, catch of the day etc etc etc … well it never ceases to amaze me the array of “BARGAINS” on offer that we never knew we needed.

Mostly I just hit that good old delete button … but the title  line of this one made me laugh…. what WERE they thinking ?? It read :
